Addiction, Harm Reduction and Naloxone Administration

Thursday, October 15, 2026 - 10:00:00 AM until

On Thursday, 15 October 2026, the NI Frontline Network will be holding an in-person, full-day workshop in Derry, focused on addiction, harm reduction and naloxone administration.

The workshop will be held at Clooney Hall, running from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Many staff working in homelessness services support people affected by substance use and addiction and regularly respond to complex, high-risk and emotionally demanding situations. Over time, this can place significant pressure on staff, particularly where overdose risk, stigma and safeguarding concerns are part of everyday work.

This interactive full-day workshop – facilitated by Extern – gives staff the opportunity to explore addiction and harm reduction in a practical and meaningful way. The session will be delivered as a full-day programme and will include naloxone administration, alongside stigma awareness and an exploration of the context of opiate use in Northern Ireland. The workshop will also include a practical naloxone training element, featuring a CPR demonstration, with an opportunity for attendees to practise these skills where time, group size and the format of the day allow.

The workshop will explore practical themes including understanding addiction, harm reduction principles, overdose awareness, naloxone administration and supporting people in a trauma-informed way. Participants will have dedicated space to reflect, share perspectives with others working in similar roles, and leave with realistic tools they can apply in day-to-day practice.

As with all NI Frontline Network events and workshops, this session is entirely free to attend for staff working directly with people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. All we ask is that you are signed up to the Northern Ireland Frontline Network newsletter.

Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure as many organisations as possible can benefit, a maximum of four places per organisation will apply. A waiting list will be held should additional places become available.
