De-Stress Your Money Talk: Peer Support for Confident Conversations

Thursday, April 24, 2025 - 11:00:00 AM until

This workshop is open to money guidance practitioners across the UK, facilitated by the Money Guiders Scotland Network.

This relaxed and informal roundtable event provides the time and a safe space for money guidance practitioners to discuss the stress that can come sometimes come when talking to service users about money and how to overcome it.

This is a peer-support forum where participants will be encouraged to share personal anecdotes about challenging money talks and what they've learned from them.

Topics up for discussion/exploration, include:

  • Identifying Stress Triggers: what are the common sources of anxiety when discussing money.
  • Cultural Influences: how societal attitudes toward money can affect both the client’s and the practitioner’s perspectives, and how these biases can be addressed.
  • Stress Management Tools: self-care practices that can be used before or after difficult conversations.
  • Building Resilience: strategies for developing resilience and maintaining self-confidence, including peer feedback, tools/resources, and continuous learning.

By the end of the session, we will identify common/recurring challenges and the next steps needed to address them as individuals and as a community of Money Guiders.

New and existing members of the Scotland Network and wider Money Guiders programme are welcome to join.

Learn more about Money Guiders

Money Guiders is a programme run by The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS), which seeks to help money guidance practitioners improve their knowledge, skills and confidence. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.

The Money Guiders Scotland Network is part of this programme and offers free networking and learning events (online and in-person) as well as an online community space, aimed at helping you build skills, knowledge and confidence in delivering money guidance. Staff and volunteers delivering any level of money guidance are welcome here.

How confident do you feel providing money guidance? Use the confidence checker to review your skills and knowledge and get some pointers on areas to focus on to help build your money guidance confidence.
