Women, Drugs and Justice: a Webinar

Women in contact with the justice system experiencing substance use often face multiple and overlapping vulnerabilities – from trauma and domestic abuse to poor mental health – yet systems of treatment and justice are rarely designed with these needs in mind.

This event, presented by the Centre for Justice Innovation, will explore why women face distinct challenges when navigating addiction, treatment and the justice system, and the impact this can have on their recovery and wellbeing. We will also consider what a more effective, trauma-informed pathway for women could look like, and highlight examples of best practice from research and frontline delivery.

We are delighted to be joined by a panel of experts:

  • Professor Magdalena Harris, Professor of Inclusion Health Sociology, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
  • Emma Plant, Community Engager at Red Rose Recovery
  • Isabel Livingstone, Head of Development at The Women’s Centre Cornwall

Together, they will bring research, practice and lived experience perspectives to this important conversation. The webinar will be hosted by Jason Kew, Senior Practice Officer at the Centre, and will include a Q&A session.
