Join Brighton & Hove Frontline Network monthly Learning Brunch, where frontline workers come together to connect, share knowledge and learn from colleagues across the homelessness sector.

This session will focus on the Duty to Refer and how it can help prevent homelessness through early identification and timely support.

Many public services have a legal Duty to Refer people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to the local authority. Brighton & Hove City Council is encouraging all professionals who identify someone at risk of homelessness to use the Duty to Refer process, recognising that professionals are often the first to notice when someone's housing situation is becoming unstable.

Early identification and referral enable support to be provided sooner, helping to prevent homelessness before a crisis develops.

During the session, Alice, Head of Service for Homelessness & Housing Options, Lisa, Senior Programme Manager for Housing People Services, and Fran, Pathways & Partnerships Manager, will:

  • Explain the Duty to Refer and the legal responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate how to make a referral.
  • Explore how the process can be used to support the people and households you work with.

Who should attend?

This session is for frontline workers and professionals across Brighton & Hove who support people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. Whether you work in housing, health, social care, community services, the voluntary sector or another public service, this session will help you better understand the Duty to Refer process and how to use it effectively.
