Tracking progress towards ending rough sleeping: Insights & new indicators

Monday, June 24, 2024

In the Ending Rough Sleeping For Good strategy 2022, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities introduced the first national definition of ending rough sleeping. The Strategy committed to working with the Centre for Homelessness Impact and five Early Adopter areas to design and rollout a new data-led framework to measure progress against the vision of ensuring rough sleeping is prevented or is otherwise rare, brief and non-recurring everywhere in England.

Since then, the group has worked together to design eight new data points to act as ‘core indicators’ to underpin the vision of ending rough sleeping. As of June 2024, these are now rolled out across every local area. This simple but powerful dataset allows local areas to have a nuanced view of rough sleeping in their area and learn from one another, and for national government to better understand what’s working at a national level.

This event is an opportunity to learn about the new Framework data and how it is helping respond to rough sleeping nationally and locally. You will hear from the CHI, early adopter local authorities and DLUHC about their experience of designing and testing the Framework; a unique co-creation project, which brought together leaders from across sectors and provided the freedom to design, test, and roll out an ambitious data project at pace. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to deepen your understanding of this work and its implications for ending rough sleeping for good.
