On the 25th June the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) are putting on a Homelessness and Immigration event with Brushstrokes Community Project and Keele University at West Smethwick Park Pavilion, W Park Rd, Smethwick B67 7JJ. The aim of the day is to bring together all interested parties to discuss the current situation and look at potential solutions to the homelessness and immigration crisis. 

Dr Simon Pemberton from Keele University will share the findings from their EMPOWER project and the framework they have created in response to the research findings. Lisa Goodson will also share how the research used Citizen Researchers in the process of the research. We will also discuss people who are affected by having NRPF (no recourse to public funds) and health and immigration issues. 

The current agenda is:

  • Start 9:30 for coffee/tea.
  • Introduction to the day.
  • Brush Strokes introduction.
  • Empowering Cities findings and sharing of framework. Dr Simon Pemberton from Keele University.
  • The current NRPF situation– Karolina from Brushstrokes.
  • Health, housing, and immigration- Kathryn Hickman from Sandwell Public Health.
  • Coffee break
  • Break out discussion groups: 30 mins each choose 2 out of the 4:
  • Group 1: Empowering Cities: Putting the Framework into action – Dr Simon Pemberton
  • Group 2: NRPF - Karolina (Brushstrokes)
  • Group 3: Health and immigration - Kathryn Hickman Sandwell Public Health
  • Group 4: Citizen Researchers – Lisa Goodson from the University of Birmingham.
