Brighton & Hove Community of Practice for Team Leaders, Coordinators and Frontline Managers: Working with complex trauma…Practice and Opportunity

Within homelessness services we speak a lot about the impact of complex trauma and the various models we employ to respond and provide the best care and support to people experiencing homelessness. What does this mean in practice for delivering services and are we meeting the need? 

Supporting people who have experienced complex trauma is an everyday part of our work within homelessness services. Models such as Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) are embedded within commissioning and accepted as good practice however these can be challenging to meaningfully put into practice.

For this session we will explore:

  • How you have overcome these challenges within your service
  • What has worked for your team or service?
  • Where things could have gone better
  • The implications for staff wellbeing

In preparation I would invite you to reflect on some of the PIE and TIC guidance and toolkits that can be found on the Homeless Link website.

It is still to be confirmed however we also hope to have a local provider give us a brief presentation on how these models have been embedded within their provision and the impact this has had on their service outcomes. If you have a particular aspect of your work that you would like to speak about please do get in touch as we may have the space to do this also.

We will also have a brief talk by Katie Elliott, Rough Sleeper Coordinator for BHCC, on the RSI5 bid for Brighton & Hove which will have been submitted earlier in the month. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to collectively explore the local planned impact of RSI5 and the cities vision for reducing and preventing rough sleeping.

We will endeavour to guide the group using ideas from a Systems Leadership and Solution Focussed approach and focus on realistic and achievable solutions.

The Homeless Link B&H Communities of Practice is open to people working as frontline managers, team leaders and service coordinators who are working or volunteering within the homelessness sector across Brighton & Hove. We also welcome those who work in related services such as domestic abuse, drugs and alcohol, criminal justice, mental health, and other health related services.

Homeless Link Communities of Practice are designed to bring together people working in homelessness and related fields within local areas. The aim is to create a safe and informal space in which attendees can share knowledge and good practice, discuss local issues, and explore how best to collaboratively overcome them.
