Colchester Community of Practice - Providing Gender Informed Services for Women

How can we ensure we deliver trauma and gender informed services to women who sell sex?

This session will provide those attending the opportunity to hear first-hand the importance of working within a trauma and gender informed approach when supporting women who sell sex so they feel able to access homeless provision and other services in Colchester.

This Community of Practice will be part of a series of events in Colchester to discuss the current provision through a gender informed lens.

Grace Sumner from National Ugly Mugs will be joining us at this Community of Practice event to share her experience and expertise with us. We will look at some examples of best practice when working with this typically excluded and marginalised group of women.

This space will give us the opportunity to explore our own professional unconscious bias and our use of language and how this can create barriers for women who sell sex to access services.

Points for discussion in this session will include;

  • How we can build and support the development of trauma and gender informed services in Colchester
  • How are we already delivering for women in Colchester and what could we improve?
  • What have we heard today that we think could shape our future practice?
