Our 2024 Frontline Worker Survey Findings

Friday, September 20, 2024

We're proud to publish the findings of our 2024 Frontline Worker Survey.

Listening to lived and frontline experience is crucial to addressing homelessness. Our survey collected feedback from over one thousand members of staff working across the UK to support people experiencing homelessness.

Their survey found that the demand for homelessness services is increasing, causing an additional strain on staff - and at times frontline workers themselves are struggling to make ends meet. Some headlines from the survey include:

  • 84% of frontline workers report increased demand for their services, with 92% struggling to find suitable housing for the people they are supporting.
  • 52% of staff working to tackle homelessness are struggling to pay their own bills and 23% even worry about being homeless themselves at least sometimes.
  • Action is needed to help reduce costs, increase incomes and improve the wellbeing of those on the frontline of preventing and resolving homelessness and for the Government to properly fund homelessness services and increase the availability and affordability of accommodation.

As one frontline worker in Manchester put it, “We need big structural changes, including increased availability of social housing, funding of public services, and a transformation of attitudes towards homeless and multiply marginalised people. This is more than individual organisations can achieve alone and requires coordinated collective demands from the sector.”

Findings are now available, sharing frontline workers’ insights into key issues and good practice when addressing homelessness, the impact of the rising cost of living and staff wellbeing and access to training. View the findings now.
