VRF launches 3 month pilot funding ID

Over the past year we have heard on numerous occasions through the Frontline Network, about how ID can be a barrier to people who are currently street homeless accessing accommodation. So we started thinking about whether there is anything the Vicar's Relief Fund (VRF) could do to address this issue through its grant criteria. In response to this we carried out a short survey earlier in the year where we asked: 

In your experience, is obtaining photo ID a barrier to people accessing accommodation?

91% of respondents said that it was. 

We also asked: 

What is the quickest form of photo ID you would apply for?

and

Are there any other types of ID you think it would be useful to fund to help people access accommodation?

The response to this suggested that it would be useful for us to fund three types of photo ID and one type of non-photo ID: 

* Citizen Card

* Passport

* Provisional driving licence

* Birth Certificate

We are therefore implementing a 3 month pilot of funding these types of ID through the VRF, where it will enable someone who is currently homeless to access accommodation.

If the trial is successful we will then consider whether to fund ID as a grant category beyond June.
