Empowering Teams Through Housing Training

In this blog, Sue Adams from Citizens Advice Coventry highlights the positive impact of funding from the Frontline Network Training Fund, which has enabled staff to undertake training and enhance the support they provide in frontline advice roles.

Empowering Our Team Through Housing Training

At Coventry Citizens Advice we believe that knowledge is the foundation of better service. A great thank you to dedicated funds from St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity, our staff have recently completed a series of housing-related training sessions that have significantly enhanced their expertise.

This investment has allowed us to deepen our understanding of complex housing issues, enabling us to provide more comprehensive advice to clients without relying on specialist referrals. The result? Faster support and better outcomes for those who need it most.

Training Highlights:

  • Housing, Domestic Abuse, and Relationship Breakdown
  • Renters Bill
  • Immigration Status and Housing Eligibility
  • Leasehold Property and Service Charges
  • Housing Costs in Universal Credit
  • Young People and Accommodation
  • Housing Law Roundup
  • Housing Benefit for Supported Accommodation

Staff at Citizen’s Advice Coventry fed back that as a result of attending these trainings, the learning from these sessions has benefitted them in the following ways:

  • “The training has helped me to keep up-to-date with trends and case law. Fortunately Shelter provided the presentation slides so I can go back to the training and check recent case law as and when I need to.”
  • “The housing training provided a valuable update on current housing law and improved my confidence in applying it during advice sessions.”
  • “Absolutely brilliant training session. I learnt so much more about Housing benefit for different housing situations. Trainer was very informative and made interacting very easy.”
  • “The training I completed on Housing, Domestic Abuse and Relationship Breakdown with Shelter was extremely useful and insightful, having the opportunity to take part in this training was very beneficial to me as a generalist adviser. As the course was very interactive and in depth, by the end of the sessions I felt more confident in this subject area.”

These sessions have strengthened our ability to guide clients through challenging situations with confidence and clarity. We’re proud to continue building a team that’s informed, empowered, and ready to make a difference.

If you work as a frontline worker with people experiencing homelessness and have identified training that can support you or your team to undertake your roles, but the cost is a barrier, we may be able to help you. Please see here to our Frontline Network Training Programme, which includes our Training Fund. Our Training Fund supports individuals with up to £500 towards a training and can support group training applications of up to £1,500. If you would like to contact us and ask a question on the process before submitting an application, you can contact us on frontline@stmartinscharity.org.uk
