Plymouth Frontline Network - 'How To Access Housing & Related Services

This September the Plymouth Frontline Network was pleased to hold an event on 'How to Access Housing & Related Services'.
The meeting helped raise awareness of what support is available locally in Plymouth for frontline workers and provided good examples of collaborative working practise among different local organisations. It also detailed how the referral process operates in Plymouth.
It was great to see so many attend. We were delighted to learn from the feedback received that frontline workers felt this event was informative and was a great opportunity to understand how clients and other agencies could more easily access housing and related support services.
Paul Green, Senior Practitioner at Bournemouth Churches Housing Association, attended the event, and described to the Frontline Network how the Alliance allows for greater support among specialist agencies within the Plymouth area.
He recalled how one individual was living in a flat without hot water, showering facilities, or electricity, with substance/alcohol experiences. By working alongside the Community Mental Health Team, Paul was able to refer the person to a specialist drug/alcohol services team in Plymouth, to start bidding for social housing.
The individual has now moved into a one-bedroom social housing, with help from the St Martin’s Vicar’s Relief Fund to support rent in advance. We are pleased to hear that as a result of this collaborative work, the person is now engaging with a specialist support group in Plymouth and is in on-going recovery from substances/alcohol.
At the end of the session, Amanda Sherriff from Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) spoke, to explain the work MEAM are undertaking in Plymouth. MEAM (a coalition of Homeless Link, Clinks, Collective Voice and MIND) will be working in the South West to explore the ideas and tools frontline workers require for creating system change. They will also look at how to generate shared learning between Bristol’s Golden Key and the Plymouth Alliance.

The next Plymouth Frontline Network meeting will be open to any frontline workers working in the public, voluntary and statutory sectors in Plymouth, supporting people experiencing homelessness.
