Neurodevelopmental conditions and homelessness: call for information

People with neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism, ADHD and learning disabilities, face barriers to accessing support for homelessness. Neurodevelopmental conditions may be ‘hidden’ from support services or misunderstood. People may also mask behaviours or have difficulty explaining the impact of conditions on their day-to-day lives. The process of recognising and supporting people with neurodevelopmental conditions is further complicated by the difficulty of accessing a clinical diagnosis. When support and accommodation is provided it is often unsuitable, which risks disengagement from services. 

Despite growing recognition of these issues, there is a lack of best practice evidence and research in this area. This research project, led by Dr Beth Stone at the University of Bristol aims to collate information on how people with neurodiverse conditions experiencing homelessness are identified and supported. We are interested in documents that discuss identifying and/or supporting any of the following; neurodevelopmental conditions, neurodiversity, autistic spectrum conditions, ADHD, or learning disabilities. This may be in the form of guidelines, reports, infographics, toolkits, or policy documents.

The deadline for input is 28th February.
