Today the Frontline Network launches the ‘Frontline Worker Survey 2019’, and we want you to help amplify the voice of frontline workers across the UK.

We believe this survey offers a unique opportunity for frontline workers to say what is and isn’t working when supporting people experiencing homelessness.

It is a vital resource for decision-makers when developing strategies to reduce homelessness.

How can you help?

  1. Take the survey:
    If you are a frontline worker, please take our survey and tell decision-makers what you think. Please note, we define ‘frontline worker’ as a paid worker, who directly supports people who are experiencing homelessness. 
  2. Share the survey with frontline workers:
    If you know someone who supports people experiencing homelessness, we want to hear their views. They might work in roles including outreach, housing, charity, social work or probation. Help us to amplify their voices by sharing this survey.
  3. Tell us why Frontline Workers matter to you: 
    Tell us why you believe the views of frontline workers are important, and why they need to be listened to: Tweet @SMITF_Frontline using #FrontlineWorkerSurvey2019.

At the Frontline Network, we support workers from the public, statutory and voluntary sectors working on the frontline with those experiencing homelessness across the UK.

An unprecedented 833 frontline workers responded to last year’s survey. It highlighted what works, shared good practice, and identified the key challenges faced by those working with people experiencing homelessness.
Last year’s report showed that frontline workers remain passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness, despite the challenges faced in trying to access appropriate support.

It demonstrated the benefits of multi-agency working to mitigate the impact of issues such as the introduction of Universal Credit. It also highlighted the importance of supporting frontline worker wellbeing.

Key Findings from Frontline Worker Survey 2018

  • Most frontline workers (82%) think it is overwhelmingly difficult to prevent homelessness.
  • 80% of all frontline workers found it difficult or very difficult to access accommodation within the Local Housing Allowance rate.
  • Access to ‘Mental Health support and Benefits support’ has got harder for frontline workers across every region in the UK.
  • While 98%of frontline workers felt ‘Having enough time to do my job effectively’ was extremely or very important, only 42% of frontline workers felt they had enough time to do their job effectively.

The survey is confidential and anonymous, and we will not be able to trace responses back to individuals or to organisations.
The survey should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete and will be open until close of play on Wednesday 26th November 2019. 
We hope the survey will highlight good practice and what works, but also be honest about the challenges faced.
