Annual Frontline Worker Survey 2018: Full Report

Tuesday, September 24, 2019

We are pleased to announce the launch of the “Annual Frontline Worker Survey 2018” full report and executive summary.

Last year, over 800 frontline workers responded to the 2018 Annual Frontline Worker Survey, highlighting the issues that they face on a day to day basis when supporting people experiencing homelessness. Frontline workers also highlighted the huge impact that frontline work can have on individual wellbeing and emphasised the practices that both support and undermine good wellbeing.

The report is the most extensive of its kind. Tim Bissett, Director at St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity, commented:

“This report shows that frontline workers remain passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness, despite the challenges faced in trying to access appropriate support. It demonstrates the benefits of multi-agency working to mitigate the impact of issues such as the introduction of Universal Credit. It also highlights the importance of supporting frontline worker wellbeing.

We believe the feedback shows the important role of frontline workers and the need for decision makers to listen to frontline workers when developing strategies to reduce homelessness.

We would like to thank all of the frontline workers who took the time to complete this survey and give their insight – we appreciate the time pressures you are under and will continue to develop ways of supporting you and the work you do.”

Key Findings:

• Access to Mental Health support and Benefits support has got harder across every region in the UK.
• 80% of frontline workers found it difficult or very difficult to access accommodation within the Local Housing Allowance rate.
• 98% of frontline workers felt that ‘Having enough time to do my job effectively’ was extremely or very important, but only 42% stated that they felt they had enough time to do their job effectively.

Get Involved:

Next month we will launch a training fund for frontline workers across the UK. This will enable frontline workers to apply for funding to attend either existing training, or to commission bespoke training where there is a high enough need in their area. Keep an eye out for this and other exciting developments by signing up to our Monthly E-newsletter.
