Women's Homelessness and the Removal of Children
Women's Homelessness and the Removal of Children
This deep dive session focused on the complex and intersectional issues around the removal of children and women’s homelessness. Lead speakers spotlighted the Growth Project, a co-produced accommodation service in Sheffield for women who had had or were at risk of having children removed and were also at risk of homelessness. This project was the first and only of its kind in the UK.
The session drew on research from Sheffield Hallam University and explored the systemic barriers posed by the social care and housing system for women who were battling for custody of their children and/or reunification. It looked at gaps in national service provision for this group, and best practice in co-produced and creative service design, including the experiences of women who used the Growth Project.
Speakers: Justine Adams (Changing Futures), Sam Chu (Paradigm Psychology) and Rebecca Smith (Target Housing).
