Free Energy Training for Frontline Workers Energy Savings and Efficiency

Friday, January 31, 2020

The average household could save up to £300 year by switching energy supplier. These savings can be increased even further by making changes in the home to become more energy efficient, meaning people have more money in their pocket and live in warmer homes. (Ofgem)

There were an estimated 23,200 excess winter deaths which occurred in England and Wales in the winter of 2018 /19, many of which were directly related to respiratory disease and pneumonia. Although this is the lowest recorded since 2013/14, it shows that we still have a long way to go in raising awareness of energy efficiency. (Office for National Statistics)

As part of the Big Energy Saving Network, Citizens Advice Ynys Môn are offering free training sessions to frontline workers who help vulnerable clients to help highlight these savings, offer support and to know who and where to signpost cases that need specialist advice.

The training overview is as follows;

 Switching energy supplier

 Energy discounts and social schemes

 Energy efficiency in the home—changing behaviours and how to help clients to change behaviours to save money.

 Grants and funding for free home energy improvements

 Supporting Agencies and referral process

 Energy complaints process and the Ombudsman scheme

The training sessions last between 1—1 1/2 hours. They include elements of group working and wider discussion on a range of case studies.
