    AWARD: £500

    ORGANISATION: Fulfilling Lives Newcastle Gateshead

To raise awareness of the PIE concept among frontline workers in the North East and to develop potential ways of frontline staff visiting projects that are implementing PIE, to learn from them.

This award was to hold a one-off event that would achieve the above aim.

We organized bringing Robin Johnson to talk about PIE and run a Q & A session in Newcastle on 27th January 2017 and followed this with workshops where participants discussed how to set up a “PIE exchange” program where staff from frontline services will visit other services developing PIE either virtually (via Skype, etc.) or physically (via trains, etc.).

The day was quickly fully booked and was a great success based on the feedback from participants. Over 40 staff attended from as far away as Liverpool and Sheffield. Robin gave a comprehensive overview of the 6 PIE principles and the history of where the underlying ideas have emerged from. Participants are now working on the next phase of arranging visits between services developing PIE to create a kind of community of practice, or learning community for PIE development.

Robin Johnson is editor of a community of practice on PIE which is free to become a member of at pielink.net

As part of our ongoing commitment to developing PIE in frontline services, we are also currently piloting a ‘Training the PIE facilitator’ package training frontline staff to develop PIE within 10 different services. Previously we have also made a film about what PIE is, which can be viewed here.

“We would like to thank the Frontline Network for their financial help towards making this event possible.” (Ray Middleton, System Broker (Fulfilling Lives))
