The LiP Network

10.30am - 3.30pm

Northumbria University, Newcastle

The LIP Network  would like to invite you to a free one-day workshop on Working with Distressed Clients, to be held on Wednesday 24th April 2018, at Northumbria University, Newcastle, 10.30am-3.30pm.

The workshop will be conducted by Professor Rob Poole (Co-Director, Centre for Mental Health and Society and Professor of Social Psychiatry, School of Social Sciences at Bangor University) and Professor Catherine Robinson (Professor of Social Care Research and Director of the Personal Social Services Research Unit at Manchester University).

This is the third time the LIP Network has run the workshop in response to the large number of organisations telling us that their staff and volunteers feel underprepared in trying to cope with the increasing number of vulnerable clients showing signs of mental illness and expressions of distress. This time, the workshop will also include social care needs more generally.

The purpose of the day is to help participants to identify the skills, knowledge and organisational measures that might help in dealing with emotionally distressed clients. The workshop will not offer didactic training, but instead aims to identify ways forward in a difficult field, where time and funding is limited.

The workshop will be interactive and will use case studies to help participants identify the skills, knowledge and organisational measures that might help in dealing with emotionally distressed clients. The event is relevant to any frontline staff and volunteers within the access to justice and/or social care sector. Previous attendees have included workers and managers providing legal advice, legal professionals, researchers, judges, court staff and law schools.

If you would like to attend please register your interest here. Kindly note that the workshop is open to LIP Network members only. You will find an option to join included on the registration form.
