    AWARD: £7920

Ayr Housing Aid Centre, established in 1987 is a registered charity helping over 1,000 South Ayrshire residents with housing issues each year. A major part of the Centre’s work is to provide advice, information, advocacy, representation to prevent homelessness and tenancy sustainment. As part of our work supporting new tenants Service Users were often unable to afford essential items in the first few months of setting a new home. This could leave them feeling overwhelmed and unable to make a start turning their house into a home. This project will enable new tenants to “Get Started” in their new home by being able to clean, decorate and cook and quickly turn their house into a home they can take pride in.

South Ayrshire residents identified will receive 3 packs:-
    Get Started:-
     A. Cleaning    - 26 items (e.g. toilet and kitchen roll, cleaning products and towels)
     B. Painting    - 12 Items (e.g. paint and DIY kit)
     C. Cooking    - 41 items (e.g. Cutlery, crockery, pots, cooking utensils and recipe cards)
This Grant will directly benefit local residents who may be in poverty, disadvantaged, disabled, elderly or sick.
Those who receive packs will see an improvement in their:-
    • Confidence
    • Self Esteem and wellbeing
    • Pride
    • Motivation
    • Mental Health
    • Physical health through healthy eating
    • Individual skills
This project will benefit 40 local residents and prevent repeat homelessness.  We have already piloted this scheme and it was a huge success with very positive feedback.  This grant will allow us to continue this for the coming year.

(Services Manager), from AYR This is a brilliant idea, has helped so many of our Service Users make a real start turning a house into a home. This has become all the more essential when waiting many weeks for an income when claiming Universal Credit. The recipe ideas encourage healthy eating and cooking from scratch on a budget and helps with motivation.
