Frontline Workers have a unique insight into what works and what doesn’t. In collaboration with Strategic Homeless Action Partnership in Edinburgh (SHAPE) mental health sub group and St Martins Frontline Network, hosted by Cyrenians, we are running a solution focussed event for frontline staff working with those who are homeless or vulnerably housed, with the aim of creating a mental health training package to enable staff to better support their client’s needs.

A mapping survey of mental health provision within homelessness services was carried out with 92 practitioners who work in homelessness in Edinburgh. The survey identified, 70% of frontline staff felt they were unable to meet the mental health needs of clients within their organisations, with 57% outlining the main reason for this being, they are not a specific mental health service. When asked, what would help meet these needs within their roles, 52% of practitioners identified bespoke package of mental health training & support would enable them to reach better outcomes alongside their clients. The aim of the event is to create a space for frontline workers to participate in mental health taster sessions enabling staff to harness new ideas, share experience, developing a creative solution focused approach.
